About Us

In Indonesia, as many as 11.5 million people suffer from a disability and between 2-3 million (physically disabled) are in need of a wheelchair.(Pusdatin-2010)

  • The number of people with disabilities is growing steadily. Due to an aging population and the global increase inchronic health conditions, more people need access to mobility devices and disability care.
  • Disability disproportionately affects Indonesia’s poor. Low income means no access to the service or devices Indonesians with disabilities require to living a healthy life. Wheelchairs appropriate for the Indonesian environment and qualified wheelchair seating professionals are both scarcely available.
  • Very few schools in Indonesia are inclusive of children with disabilities. Special education schools offer low levels of education and are geographically difficult to access for many children.
  • The cycle of poverty, lack of opportunities and stigma for with disabilities continues. Lack of education plus inaccessibility in workplaces and transportation makes it incredibly difficult for people with disabilities to provide for themselves and their families.

To respond their needs, WAFCAI contributes to an inclusive and barrier-free society for people with disabilities by providing wheelchairs as a tool. We also aim to provide rights-based educational support for people with disabilities to be integrated into the main stream of society, and to have equal opportunities as with other people without disabilities.
